Dissecting "Nosferatu" (2024) [Part 4]: Dreams Grow Darker

As Robert Eggers' " The VVitch " (2015) is the " Puritan nightmare ", his  " Nosferatu " is the Victorian nightmare . Robert Eggers explored the thematic of  dreams  and  nightmares , present in the " Dracula " novel, mostly associated with Lucy Westenra's character. As  introduced in previous posts , this connects with  Carl Jung's interpretation of dreams , as he wrote :  " The dream is the small hidden door in the innermost and most secret recesses of the soul ". Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung devoted great part of their careers to the study of dreams, crafting complex systems of interpretation and symbolism. Both Freud and Jung regarded dreams as a window into our unconscious mind ; where forgotten memories, repressed desires and unresolved conflicts lie in the darkness.
